Challenges of the KPK Selection Committee
"Do they prioritize the corruption eradication agenda to cleanse Indonesia? Are they more loyal to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia or to political orders in order to secure positions and future careers? That is the choice," said Zaenur.
According to Zaenur, the KPK is an institution that is considered a threat to power because it eradicates corruption, while power in Indonesia is still very corrupt.
The selection committee, continued Zaenur, cannot possibly carry out the mandate of the authorities while also prioritizing the corruption eradication agenda because their interests are different. President Joko Widodo is considered not to have a clear corruption eradication agenda.
This is evident from almost 10 years of government, President Jokowi has not contributed much to corruption eradication. During his two terms in office, Indonesia's Corruption Perception Index (CPI) has stagnated. In fact, the KPK was destroyed in the hands of President Jokowi.
Indonesia's CPI score in 2023 stagnated at 34 (out of a maximum value of 100). Indonesia's ranking fell five places from the previous year, from 110 to 115 out of 180 countries. In 2021, with a CPI score of 38, Indonesia was ranked 96. Indonesia's highest CPI score was recorded in 2019, which was 40 and was ranked 85.
