Jakarta, Legal Literacy - Former Secretary of the Supreme Court (MA) Hasbi Hasan was charged with 13 years and 8 months in prison and a fine of Rp1 billion subsidiary to 6 months in prison by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the KPK.
The charges were read out in the continuation of the bribery and gratification case at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor), Thursday (14/3).
"Demanding that the panel of judges examining and adjudicating this case declare the defendant Hasbi Hasan legally and convincingly guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption," said KPK prosecutor Wawan Yunarwanto in the trial.
Hasbi Hasan was charged with accepting bribes and gratuities worth a total of Rp11.2 billion related to case management at the Supreme Court. The bribes were received from several parties, including Heryanto Tanaka and Yosep Parera related to the cassation of the Intidana Savings and Loan Cooperative (KSP).
The prosecutor assessed that Hasbi was proven to have accepted bribes and gratuities on an ongoing basis and never rejected the giving. The prosecutor considered this as an aggravating factor in the charges.
"The defendant's actions do not support the government's program in eradicating criminal acts of corruption," said the prosecutor.
Meanwhile, the mitigating factors for Hasbi's charges are that he has never been convicted and has served for 30 years at the Supreme Court.
Hasbi Hasan, through his legal advisory team, expressed his objection to the prosecutor's demands. He assessed that the demands were disproportionate and oppressive.
"We will submit a plea on March 21," said one of Hasbi's legal advisors, Nurhadi.
