Handwritten Letter from the Hospital
The letter was handwritten on two sheets of light green paper, each dated April 5, 2026. In the letter, a number of correction scribbles and Andrie's signature are visible. The Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Muhammad Isnur, said that Andrie was still able to write even in a limited condition due to his injuries.
According to Isnur, Andrie's right eye is still under treatment due to being splashed with hard water, while his left eye can still function normally. He mentioned that Andrie's left hand can still be used for writing, although not freely. Visits to Andrie at RSCM are also still limited, so the recovery process takes place under strict supervision.
Case Becomes a Highlight Because It Involves TNI Soldiers
The incident of splashing hard water on Andrie Yunus occurred in Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026, after he finished recording a podcast at the YLBHI office in Menteng. On the way home, Andrie was attacked and fell off his motorcycle. Local residents then provided assistance before he was finally taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Based on a doctor's examination, Andrie suffered injuries to his right eye and burns of about 20 percent on his body due to being splashed with hard water. Later, four BAIS TNI soldiers were secured and then named as suspects in the case. They are Captain NDP, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.
This case continues to be a public concern because it involves an attack on a human rights activist, as well as involving military personnel. The four suspects were charged with Article 467 of the Criminal Code concerning premeditated persecution, with a minimum prison sentence of four years and a maximum of seven years.
Andrie's letter to the Constitutional Court shows that for the victim, this case is not only about punishing the perpetrators in the field, but also about ensuring that the legal process runs on a path that he believes better guarantees accountability and justice.
