JAKARTA, Legal Literacy — Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) approved Adies Kadir as a Constitutional Justice at the Constitutional Court (MK) from the DPR's proposed element. The decision was taken in a meeting of Commission III at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday (26/1/2026), which was chaired by the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman.

In the meeting, Adies first delivered a presentation as a candidate for constitutional judge. After that, the factions conveyed their views before the meeting leader asked for the forum's approval. The meeting then agreed on Adies as a candidate for MK judge proposed by the DPR and stated that the next process would be carried out in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

Filling the DPR's Constitutional Justice to Replace Arief Hidayat

This approval from Commission III is related to the replacement of the Constitutional Justice from the DPR element. Commission III had previously scheduled a fit and proper test for candidates for constitutional judges on Monday (26/1/2026) afternoon, and Adies Kadir—who currently serves as Deputy Speaker of the DPR—was said to be the candidate being tested to replace the Constitutional Justice proposed by the DPR, Arief Hidayat.

It is known that Arief Hidayat will enter his retirement period because he reaches the age limit of 70 years on February 3, 2026. The provisions for honorable discharge due to being 70 years old are regulated in the amendment to the Constitutional Court Law.

The Constitutional Court also sent a letter to the DPR to inform them of Arief's retirement schedule in accordance with the provisions of notification to the proposing institution before the age limit/retirement.
