TNI and Activist Ferry Irwandi Reach a Peaceful Agreement, Legal Process Stopped
TNI and activist Ferry Irwandi agreed to make peace, stopping the legal process of alleged defamation after reaping criticism from military observers
Jakarta, LiterasiHukum.com – The Indonesian National Army's (TNI) plan to take legal action against activist Ferry Irwandi for alleged defamation has finally been cancelled. Both parties have officially announced that they have agreed to resolve the dispute peacefully, with the main consideration being to maintain stability and avoid escalating conflict in the community.
This peace agreement was announced directly by Ferry Irwandi through his social media account. He explained that he had a constructive dialogue via telephone with the Head of the TNI Information Center (Kapuspen), Brigadier General TNI Freddy Ardianzah, which resulted in a decision not to continue further legal proceedings.
This step marks the end of the polemic that had heated up after the TNI had previously stated that it would criminalize Ferry Irwandi because the content he created was considered to contain criminal elements. The TNI's initial decision had drawn sharp criticism from various groups who highlighted the relationship between military institutions and the freedom of expression of citizens.
