SOUTHEAST MALUKU, LITERASIHUKUM.COM - A bloody incident has shaken the dynamics of local politics and public security in Maluku. The Chairman of the Southeast Maluku Golkar Party Branch Leadership Council (DPC), Agrapinus Rumatora alias Nus Kei, died after being the victim of a deadly stabbing in the area of Karel Sadsuitubun Ibra Airport, Southeast Maluku, on Sunday (19/4/2026) afternoon.

The unfortunate incident began at around 11:25 Eastern Indonesian Time (WIT) in the airport exit area, shortly after the victim landed from a flight to Jakarta. The sharp-armed attack that took place very quickly fatally injured the victim. Although the team in the field had carried out an emergency evacuation to the Karel Sadsuitubun Hospital at 12.00 WIT, the life of the leader of the regional political party could not be saved due to injuries that were too severe.

Responding to criminal acts of violence at vital object facilities, law enforcement officials immediately imposed multiple blockages and pursuits. The Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Regional Police (Polda), Commissioner Besar Rositah, confirmed the success of investigators in arresting two suspected perpetrators in less than two hours after the incident. The two men, known by their initials HR (28) and FU (36), have now been detained and are undergoing intensive examination by the Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Southeast Maluku Regional Police (Polres).

Regarding the triggering factor of this reckless act, the Head of Southeast Maluku Police, Rian Sehendi, revealed initial indications that this murder was motivated by revenge. Based on preliminary interrogations, the dispute between the victim and the perpetrators is alleged to have tapered and accumulated since the three of them were both in the capital city of Jakarta, before finally leading to the execution of violence in Maluku.

According to criminal law doctrine, the act of disappearance that is executed accurately when the victim arrives at a location strongly indicates the formation of malicious intentmens reaif the investigating authority is able to prove that there was a time lag for the perpetrators to plan the action from Jakarta to the airport, the construction of this case is potentially directed to the offense of premeditated murder. If the investigating authority is able to prove that there was a time lag for the perpetrators to develop a scenario of action from Jakarta to being on standby at the airport, the construction of this case has the potential to be directed at the offense of premeditated murder.

Thus, the alleged perpetrators will face the threat of maximum criminal sanctions in the form of Article 340 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on premeditated murder, subsidiary to Article 338 of the Criminal Code on ordinary murder, in conjunction with provisions on joint acts of violence. The investigation of this case is now a test of the precision and integrity of investigators to make it clear whether this case is purely rooted in personal disputes, or there are other layers of motives given the victim's status as a central figure of a political party at the local level.[1]
