JAKARTA, LITERASIHUKUM.COM – Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Sahroni, expressed his full support for President Prabowo Subianto's instruction to take firm action against retired TNI-Polri generals who are backing illegal mining. According to him, law enforcement against these generals is easy to do if there is strong political will from the country's leadership. This statement was a response to President Prabowo's state address at the DPR-MPR Building on Friday (15/8/2025), where he openly threatened to take action against anyone involved in these illegal practices, without exception. "Yes, it can be done, it's easy. It's very obvious. Just arrest all of them (illegal mining perpetrators) first," said Sahroni at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (19/8/2025).

Strategy to Uncover Actors Behind the Scenes

Sahroni suggested a practical strategy for law enforcement officials. According to him, the most effective first step is to arrest all perpetrators at the operational level. From there, it will be seen who has the "power" to release the perpetrators from the clutches of the law. "After the illegal mining perpetrators are arrested, it will be seen whether any of those detained are walking free. But if someone gets out, it's obvious, just take them down," he asserted. The Nasdem Party politician believes that a direct order from a president will become an instruction that no one at the law enforcement level will dare to defy. "If it's the president's order, who would dare (to oppose)? We support it," added Sahroni.

No Longer a Public Secret

Sahroni also confirmed that the presence of retired generals behind the illegal mining business is no longer a public secret. He appreciated President Prabowo's courage and assertiveness in bringing this crucial issue to the surface. "Actually, it's not a public secret. It definitely exists. Mr. Prabowo's allegations are there. But we are proud that Mr. Prabowo as the current president is following up to eradicate this thing," he said. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto in his speech had given a stern warning and ensured that there would be no impunity for powerful individuals involved. "I give a warning! Whether there are big people, powerful people, generals from anywhere. Whether generals from the TNI or generals from the police or former generals? There is no excuse, we will act in the name of the people," Prabowo asserted.
