PARIAMAN, Legal Literacy - The case of naming a father with the initialsED in Pariaman, West Sumatra, has garnered public attention. This event came into the spotlight after ED was named a suspect in premeditated murder, which is said to be related to the alleged sexual violence experienced by his daughter.
Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, assesses that law enforcement officials need to delve deeper into the psychological conditions underlying the action. He emphasized the importance of looking at the mental shock factor that may arise when a parent finds out that their child is suspected of being a victim of sexual violence in the long term.
Brief Chronology of Alleged Sexual Violence
Based on a series of information circulating, the victim is a girl who was born in 2008. Since around 2016, the victim was entrusted to live with a close relative, namely ED's younger sister.
In that house, ED's younger sister lived with her husband with the initials F. On the night of September 21, 2025, the family caught another man with the initials N in the victim's room. From there, it was revealed that the victim had allegedly experienced sexual violence more than once.
The incident then continued on September 23, 2025, when ED and his family took the victim to the police station to file a report. However, during the examination process, the victim confessed that the perpetrators of the alleged sexual violence were not just one person. The name F, who is still a close relative of the victim, was also mentioned in the confession.
Murder Incident and Legal Status
Not long after learning of the victim's confession, ED allegedly attacked F resulting in fatalities. ED was then named a suspect in the case premeditated murder, with the threat of severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty in accordance with applicable regulations.
Meanwhile, a man with the initials N was said to have fled out of the area before finally returning to provide clarification. In the development of the case, N was detained as a suspect in the alleged act of sexual violence.
Police Emphasize These Are Two Separate Cases
The Chief of Pariaman Police, AKBP Andrenaldo Ademi, emphasized that the police are handling two different cases:
- The alleged case of indecency/sexual violence, and
- The murder case that occurred afterwards.
According to the police, the report of alleged sexual violence was received on September 23, 2025 and processed first according to procedure. In the subsequent investigation, the focus of the alleged main perpetrator shifted because new information emerged involving other people who had family relations with the victim.
Regarding the murder, the police also assessed that the incident did not occur “instantly” in one spontaneous moment. Investigators highlighted the existence of a time span from the moment ED received information until the action occurred at night, which then became part of the consideration in the investigation construction.
