JAKARTA, LITERASIHUKUM.COM — The Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police have again expanded the examination of witnesses in the alleged defamation and electronic manipulation case related to the accusation of a fake diploma of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. This time, investigators have scheduled an examination of journalist Aiman Witjaksono as a witness at the State Security Sub-directorate of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police. According to Aiman's previous statement, the examination of him had indeed been rescheduled to Thursday, April 2, 2026, after initially being summoned on Monday.
Aiman's summons indicates that investigators are now not only exploring information from suspects and expert witnesses, but also tracing media broadcasts that are allegedly related to the dissemination or reinforcement of the narrative regarding Jokowi's diploma. Aiman himself stated that the summons was not related to him personally, but rather to the television program “Rakyat Bersuara” which he leads. According to him, investigators likely want to confirm whether certain broadcasts were indeed used as part of the evidence by the complainant.
Police Investigate the Role of Television Broadcasts and Media Figure Statements
The day before, the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police had also examined senior journalist Karni Ilyas as a witness. Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that investigators did summon a number of parties from the media and are still investigating excerpts of television broadcasts that are allegedly relevant to the case. The police also signaled that the examination of Karni has not stopped and may still be continued if needed to strengthen the case files.
This deepening direction shows that investigators are tracing not only who uttered or spread the allegations, but also how the issue circulated and gained amplification in the public sphere. From a law enforcement perspective, the examination of media figures such as Aiman and Karni can be read as an effort by the police to map the chain of information dissemination, including its possible connection with broadcast material or public discussions that have aired on television.
Case Has Implicated Eight Suspects, Some File for Restorative Justice
This case itself is not a new case. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have named eight suspects since November 7, 2025. According to official police statements, the eight suspects were divided into two clusters and charged with articles related to defamation, slander, incitement, hate speech, and electronic data manipulation.
In its course, some of the suspects pursued restorative justice. ANTARA previously reported that Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar also filed a petition for restorative justice to investigators in March 2026. Prior to that, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police had received similar petitions from Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis. In other words, on the one hand, this case continues to proceed in certain clusters, but on the other hand, there are also efforts to resolve it through restorative mechanisms for some suspects.
Aiman's summons at this point shows that the police have not closed the possibility of further investigating the case, especially against parties deemed to know the context of the issue's dissemination in the public sphere. Therefore, public attention will now be focused on two things: first, what material information will be extracted from Aiman; and second, whether the investigation into media broadcasts will affect the direction of the case files being compiled by the police.
