JAKARTA, Legal Literacy— A honorary teacher at SDN 21 Pematang Raman Village, Muaro Jambi Regency, Tri Wulansari, has been named a suspect after being reported by her student's family. The report emerged after an incident of cutting the hair of a student who had dyed it blonde, which then led to a slapping incident.

This case has attracted public attention and was discussed in the DPR forum. Tri also attended a public hearing (RDPU) of Commission III of the DPR RI on Tuesday (20/1/2026) to convey the chronology and impact of the case that ensnared her.

Chronology: Hair Cut, Argument, Leading to Police Report

Based on circulating information, the incident began when Tri conducted a hair raid on January 8, 2025. Several students were said to have not returned their hair color to black after the school holiday. During the raid, some students refused to have their hair cut.

The refusal triggered an argument. The student allegedly uttered harsh words to Tri, which Tri responded to by slapping the student's mouth once. After the incident, the student's family reported Tri to the police. Tri was then named a suspect and underwent weekly mandatory reporting.

Jambi Police Chief: Mediation and Restorative Justice Will Be Pursued

Jambi Police Chief Inspector General Krisno Siregar stated that his party would mediate Tri with the reporting party to resolve the case through a restorative justice mechanism. The mediation process is said to be carried out in coordination with the Jambi High Prosecutor's Office.

This step is directed at opening up opportunities for termination of investigation through a restorative justice approach, as long as the requirements are met.

Attorney General: If the File Comes In, It Will Be Stopped

At the central level, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin guaranteed that he would stop the case if the case file had been submitted to the prosecutor's office. The statement was made in a working meeting with Commission III of the DPR RI.

Commission III of the DPR RI also requested law enforcement officials in the region to stop the case and suspend the detention of Tri's husband, who was also said to be a suspect.

Tri Complains to the DPR: Ready Not to Teach, But There Is No Peaceful Decision

In the RDPU, Tri came in an emotional state and conveyed that she had warned four students who dyed their hair blonde to return it to black. However, one of the students refused when the haircut was carried out.

Tri admitted that she had told the student's parents that she was willing not to teach at the school anymore as a way out. However, according to her, the student's family stated that they would discuss it first and never provided a follow-up decision.
